The #happysheffield project is part of the University of Sheffield’s 2016 Festival of the Mind. It is a collaboration between University of Sheffield academics in ScHARR and Dept of Computer Science, plus two creative partners in Sheffield, Human Studio and Ignite Imaginations.

The project measures happiness (and 7 other emotional states) via an “affect analysis” of the words used by twitter users in Sheffield. The website shows the last 50 tweets analysed from Sheffield, and gives users the opportunity to compare this with an analysis of their own twitter activity by entering their twitter username. It also shows an the latest emotion in the city, based on the most recently analysed tweet along with an example tweet that represents the emotion.

Alongside this website, results are also available as a visualization in the Futurecade-
